What is little salt springs?

Little Salt Springs is a prehistoric archaeological site located in North Port, Florida, United States. It is a karst window, or opening, into the Florida aquifer system, and is one of only a few known underwater sites in the Americas. The site has yielded significant evidence of human habitation dating back over 10,000 years, including Paleo-Indian artifacts such as spear points, as well as evidence of more recent occupation by indigenous peoples. Little Salt Springs is also home to a unique assemblage of aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals, which have adapted to the high salinity levels of the spring water. Today, the site is protected and managed by the University of Miami and is used for archaeological research, as well as recreational scuba diving.
